Chocolate chip cookies are my
weakness. Sometimes I play the “I’m an adult so I can do what I want!” card and
eat them for dinner. And I never regret it.
This recipe is my favorite,
and so I’m going to share it with you—writing it from memory. How sad is that?
And by sad, I mean awesome.
Also, if you are making these
with gf flour, be sure to get the flour that is meant for baking.
Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
1
½ cups brown sugar
¾
stick shortening
1
tablespoon vanilla extract
1
egg
2
tablespoons milk
2
¼ cups flower (gf or regular)
1 teaspoon baking soda
½
teaspoon salt
1
bag chocolate chips
Directions
Heat oven to 375°F.
In large bowl, mix sugar, shortening, milk,
and vanilla. Mix in egg. Then mix in flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in
chocolate chips.
On ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough
by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
Bake 6 to 10 minutes (depending on how
hot your oven runs) or until light brown (centers will be soft).
Cool 1 to 2 minutes, and then stuff
your face with the delicious little treats!
Jessica and Brian were off on
a totally awesome adventure last week to Jerusalem, so the niece and nephew
spent some time up here! We had a great time celebrating Reese’s birthday,
going to the park, and just hanging out.
One of Reese’s birthday presents
was an Easy Bake Oven, and let me tell you, those things are way fancier than
they were back in my day! Conveyer belts, fancy trays, a variety of treats. Like,
part of me wants one for work. But, like most toys these days, with great awesomeness
comes some complications.
After the festivities, Julie and
I were chatting when we turned to see this:
We started laughing—that little
purple Easy Bake Oven had become serious business to the guys!!
Luckily they got the oven to work,
and we all lived happily ever after.
So last night Josh and I went on a date—and a pretty great one. Café Rio and bowling…but I know what you’re thinking.
“Danielle, that’s not a very unusual date…”
But it was, and I’ll tell you why!
We get to the bowling alley, one neither of us had been to before, and the front of it looked like an abandoned warehouse. Seriously. I almost didn’t want to go in, but Josh coaxed me into braving it.
We walk to the back of the space and find ourselves in a super sketch bowling alley. But we weren’t going to back down now, so we got our shoes and started the first game. Things were going just fine the first few rounds—and it was actually cool because our screen was ocean themed.
But then things turned for the funnier.
Our pins suddenly wouldn’t stay up anymore. We’d start to bowl with half of the pins already down (or missing)! It was really hilarious when one of us would get a gutter ball and it would show up on the screen as a strike…but not so funny when we would get a strike and it would show up on the screen as a gutter ball. But we kept bowling, missing pins and all. Sometimes the ball would somehow bounce from the back and knock a few more pins down, and sometimes our pins would go flying up the gutter so they were halfway down the lane! We’d knock them back with an intentional gutter ball. And let me tell you, that's actually harder than you'd think!
Halfway through the second game, our lane gave up on us and randomly shut down. When Josh went to go tell the employee about the situation, the guy just sighed an exasperated “wonderfulll…” and moved us to a different lane. That lane started somewhat better…until it began to malfunction just like the other one! We were laughing each time one of us went up to bowl. It made the game so much more unpredictable!
Maybe we were cursed, or maybe the bowling alley just wanted to make it an even more entertaining date night. Either way, it was seriously the funniest bowling match we’ve ever played. So memorable in fact, this morning we were still laughing about how ridiculous the bowling alley was.
Sometimes the best thing to do when the bowling alley gives you lemons is to make some lemonade you can laugh over for days to come. And we definitely will be laughing!
So, if you’re looking for a ridiculous bowling night, just go to the Seven Peaks bowling alley in Sandy—you’ll be in for a funny time!

Happy Valentine’s Day
everyone! I just love love, and so how could I not love a day all about love! I
just wanted to take a moment and tell all my family and friends and pups how much they
mean to me, and how I am so lucky to have each of them in my life.
And I especially love
Valentine’s Day because I get to spend the whole day being all cheesy-lovey to
Josh and it’s completely acceptable! So, to the sweetest man alive who makes
every day amazing and fun—thanks for being my Valentine! I love you!
I
love Valentine’s Day.
How did I make it you ask?
And
with it just around the corner, love is showing up all over the place…including
my crafts! I really like how my letter block project turned out, and it only took
about an hour.
How did I make it you ask?
With
some wood blocks, yarn, glitter and my Silhouette! You don’t need a Silhouette
to make this craft however, you can cut the letters out yourself and it’ll be
just as cute.
Below
is a pretty vague description of how I made it. If you want more specific
directions, feel free to ask.
Start
by taping a piece of the yarn to the wood block so the yarn will wrap
vertically. Wrap the yarn tight and when you get to the opposite edge of the
wood block, tape the end down and cut. Then, take the yarn and begin to wrap
horizontally from one end to the other, removing the tape as you cover/secure
the vertical yarn when wrapping horizontally. When it’s all wrapped, tie off
the yarn by tucking it under the bottom of the vertical yarn…and now you have
one block done! Repeat for as many blocks as you need. Once you have all your
blocks wrapped, it’s time to put on the letters. I just cut the shapes using
adhesive paper and covered one side in glitter, but you could cut the shapes
out and then use glue and glitter to cover the letters. Tape/glue the letters
to your blocks and voilà! A cute Valentine’s Day decoration!
I’m
loving how love-y our house is feeling...
Hopefully I can make a few more crafts before Valentine’s Day actually arrives!
Hopefully I can make a few more crafts before Valentine’s Day actually arrives!
And
thanks to my darling friend Kelly for adding to our Valentine’s Day flair with
this super cute board decoration.
So,
if you get the chance, take a moment and add a little more love to your home
for Valentine’s!
Well, the Super Bowl may have been a disappointment, but a
really great cupcake recipe came out of the party and I’m excited to share it!
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar (if you like your cupcakes very sweet, add a little more.)
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Preheat oven to 375F. Line muffin pan with cupcake papers.
The recipe is super easy, and I made them with gluten-free flour and they turned out
amazing. (For my flour I use the Cup 4 Cup brand.) I’m sure you can make them with regular flour and they’d be delicious
too—they are however a little denser with the gf flour, so don’t think you’ve
done anything wrong if they turn out that way.
And I don’t think I’ve mentioned
this on my blog yet, but Josh (the best husband ever) got me a Silhouette Cameo
for Christmas! I’ve been using it every chance I get, and Super Bowl was no
different! I made some football-themed cutouts and turned them into little
cupcake toppers!
So cute right??
…but I may be a bit biased.
Anyway, enough of my chatting--let’s get to the recipe!
