an unusual bowling night.

10:35 AM

So last night Josh and I went on a date—and a pretty great one. Café Rio and bowling…but I know what you’re thinking.

“Danielle, that’s not a very unusual date…”

But it was, and I’ll tell you why!

We get to the bowling alley, one neither of us had been to before, and the front of it looked like an abandoned warehouse. Seriously. I almost didn’t want to go in, but Josh coaxed me into braving it.

We walk to the back of the space and find ourselves in a super sketch bowling alley. But we weren’t going to back down now, so we got our shoes and started the first game. Things were going just fine the first few rounds—and it was actually cool because our screen was ocean themed.

But then things turned for the funnier.

Our pins suddenly wouldn’t stay up anymore. We’d start to bowl with half of the pins already down (or missing)! It was really hilarious when one of us would get a gutter ball and it would show up on the screen as a strike…but not so funny when we would get a strike and it would show up on the screen as a gutter ball. But we kept bowling, missing pins and all. Sometimes the ball would somehow bounce from the back and knock a few more pins down, and sometimes our pins would go flying up the gutter so they were halfway down the lane! We’d knock them back with an intentional gutter ball. And let me tell you, that's actually harder than you'd think!

Halfway through the second game, our lane gave up on us and randomly shut down. When Josh went to go tell the employee about the situation, the guy just sighed an exasperated “wonderfulll…” and moved us to a different lane. That lane started somewhat better…until it began to malfunction just like the other one! We were laughing each time one of us went up to bowl. It made the game so much more unpredictable!

Maybe we were cursed, or maybe the bowling alley just wanted to make it an even more entertaining date night. Either way, it was seriously the funniest bowling match we’ve ever played. So memorable in fact, this morning we were still laughing about how ridiculous the bowling alley was.

Sometimes the best thing to do when the bowling alley gives you lemons is to make some lemonade you can laugh over for days to come. And we definitely will be laughing!

So, if you’re looking for a ridiculous bowling night, just go to the Seven Peaks bowling alley in Sandy—you’ll be in for a funny time!
